Chair – Mr. Earl Roberts

The General Education program was designed to provide support to the majors in all the programs that are offered by the School of Applied Arts and Technology; and focuses on a number of general student outcomes that form the basis of the instructional program and assessment activities: success in the courses will allow  effective communication ability, analytical capability, problem-solving ability, decision-making skills, effective social interaction, effectiveness in individual/environmental relationships, responsible involvement in the contemporary world, and the society as a whole. The holistic development of the student is fundamental in the planning of it programs.

All majors, both degree and certificate have course requirements that respond to the need for general skills for life enrichment and career advancement.  These skills relate to Art, Communication, Foreign-language, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Science, and Technology.  Specific courses according to these grouping follow are utilized within the major program areas of the school.  These courses will provide support to all major Technical/Vocational study areas of the school. The department of general education has a combination of dedicated and competent staff to provide services in all areas of delivery.

Support is given at three levels: the Level I Certificate, Advanced Certificate (Level II), and the Associate Degree Level.   For each level, the program becomes progressively more challenging.

Courses which are compulsory for the Associate Degree in the School of Arts, Science & Professional Studies and for the School of Applied Arts and Technology (SAAT) would be included in the General Education offerings.
